Next up in our second part of the series is Cory Ryan out of Austin, TX. She’s been a photographer for the past 11-years and has plenty to share with us.
What inspired you to become a photographer?
I started with a degree in film and video production, and ended up as a documentary film editor right after college. I was looking for a way to use my skill set in a more adventurous capacity, and fell in love with weddings. It’s so much fun to become a part of different families for a day and every weekend is a totally different experience!
How did you learn your craft?
I combined skills from my film and video production degree, Foundation workshops, and good old fashioned practice, practice, practice.
What is your favorite type of photography?
Wedding and documentary
If you could shoot one thing (person, place, etc…) what would it be and why?
I’d love to document a U.S. president over their 4 year term.
What is the biggest benefit of your job?
Unlimited wedding cake? Just kidding. I think it’s just knowing that I’m providing couples with family heirlooms that will be cherished for years and years to come.
Any tips for aspiring photographers?
Create your own brand and your own style. If you try too hard to copy your heroes, you will just end up blending in with everyone else.
Any tips for getting the perfect shot…even with a cell phone?
Don’t just click the shutter haphazardly. Be patient and wait for your moments to unfold in front of your lens.
